A journey, a search

Born in Torrelavega (Cantabria, Spain), Alejandro Saiz begins his musical training in Santander with Carlos Diego. He continues in Oviedo (Asturias) with José Ramón Hevia and Lev Tchistiakov (Moscow Virtuosi Orchestra, Tchaikovsky Conservatory faculty member), obtaining Bachelor double Degree in Violin and Chamber Music majors with highest honors.

He moves later to the United States to study with prestigious Almita Vamos and Roland Vamos at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music (National Medal of Arts), where he finishes his studies for the Artist Diploma with highest grades. In addition to violin, he studies chamber music with Gregory Fulkerson, Andor Toth and Andrew Jennings, viola with Roland Vamos, twelve-tone music and serialism with Richard Hoffmann (Arnold Schoenberg's student) and orchestra and choir conducting with Edward Maclary.

He has also received advice from Rodney Friend (London Philharmonic and New York Philharmonic concertmaster), Erick Friedman (Heifetz's outstanding student), José Luis García Asensio (English Chamber Orchestra concertmaster), Gonçal Comellas, Agustín León Ara, Boris Belkin, Boris Garlitski (Conservatoire National Supérior de Paris, Paganini International Competition winner), Zakhar Bron, Eugene Drucker (Emerson String Quartet), Vartan Manoogian and Barry Sargent.

His interest in expanding interpretative possibilities leads him to work for several years historical performance of Baroque and Classical repertoire with eminent specialists such as Sigiswald Kuijken, Lucy van Dael, Enrico Gatti, Wouter Möller and Wim ten Have, among others.
